Raptor Watchpoint (TF971255)

The site is merely a corner of a field set aside for observing raptors.  At least seven species have been seen so far.

ACCESS:

From Fakenham take the Norwich road A1067.  Take a right turn, signed Great Ryburgh.  As you approach the village cross the river Wensum and then turn left by the church and public house.  Continue along this road until you reach a fork then bear left.  Continue along this road until you cross the disused railway.  The car park is a short distance along this road on your right.

From Norwich  on the A1067 take the  B1110 in Guist towards East Dereham.  In Broom Green you need to turn right just through the remains of the old railway bridge (proceed with caution-dangerous junction).  Continue until the next junction and turn right. Continue along this road for about a mile.  The car park is on the left.

All approach roads to this site are narrow, drive with care and park only in the designated car park!

DESCRIPTION:

The watchpoint overlooks Senowe Park estate.  There is no public access into the estate.  From the watchpoint you have excellent views over the woodland.  Honey Buzzards show well, particularly early morning.  Also look out for Common Buzzard, Sparrowhawk, Kestrel and Hobby (up to five seen at one time).  Little Owl often shows well in the meadows down to the right of the watchpoint, perched on fence posts.
